Nick,
I set the gap to .012 and what do you know, the thing now runs great!
I still have to check the timing, after I find that darn notch (thanks for
the tip),.
I inspected and adjusted the rocker arms to .004 - all seems well there now.
The plugs are new and gapped.
The carb seems happy - I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Brakes work - the car stops when I ask it to
Now all I have to work on are the issues that don't involve getting the car
to move down the street - definately feels better than earlier today! The
way things go around here, it's about 6 months worth of work...
- horn doesn't work.
- passenger window goes up and down poorly.
- install the fresh hatch seal I bought months ago.
- replace the dash with the (almost) uncracked one I bought months ago
- finish cleaning up / touching up the engine bay
- swap the camshaft housing with the one from the coupe so I can use my tach
