I am finding that with the new gasolines we have in Calif. that my
accelerator pump diaphrams expand or bloat up. With the car I am
building now the diaphram was too small/thin initially and leaked. I
found that the pump doesn't really add much oomph to my acceleration
so I am thinking it's not a necessity.
The accelerator pump does nothing at freeway speeds, only off the
line. My engine revs fine when I disconnected the pump linkage.
Anyone else have recent findings? I am thinking to make a plate with
o-ring to block it off, will also make it easier to work on the carb.
The mechanical and vacuum advancers also are designed to help with
acceleration. My Honda CB550-4 would not run at all over idle when
the mechanical advancer weights were frozen in place.
