Re: Z on ebay...popo????
Steven;
That's my page, and I will stand by the statement that there "may be only a few hundred still in running condition" not 2 hundred remaining. But in collecting chassis, engine and dates of manufacture for over 10 years, I still do not have 2 hundred Coupes listed in any condition. Do you have some numbers to share?

Re: Z on ebay...popo????
Bill,
No, nothing to add. My guess is the seller did a search for that sort of info and your page was the only one that alluded to any number at all, so he did some creative interpreting and threw it into his auction description. I do plan to spend the 19 bucks and see what the "How Many Are Left?" ad in Hemmings says about the 600 though. I will post their info when I get it.

Greg;
Regular attrition equates to a loss of around 5% per year leaving 1.6% remaining (any condition) after 30 years.
If a little over 45000 Honda 600's were registered in the USA, that would say 1600 are still out there. I was putting the total at around 1500 with less than 300 in any kind of running condition. This is based on survival ratings of all cars and is the normal trend. Since this car had very little value for so many years fewer are left and fewer of these are running. The greater collect-ability the greater survivor rating. A book by Robert Wieder and George Hall "the Great American Convertible" (Doubleday/Dolphin 1977) probably makes the best case for "how much gold is left in them thar Hills?" question. And, their picture of surviving ragtops was based on model year registration, collect-ability and when the particular vehicle was produced and when Americana decided to start collecting great cars. Since the hobby didn't get off to any wide spread enthusiasm until the late 60's early 70's (this is when restoration changed from a paint job to body off nut and bolt restorations) the Honda was still viewed as an import and collectable vehicles were from the 30's and 40's. But as Robert and George said; " (Note-Bear in mind that these statistics could be as misleading as a bookie's tax return. Readers who feel this is the case are invited to take these or any raw statistics and apply whatever formulae and interpretations appeal to them, to come up with a different figure. Your informed guess is probably as good as ours.)
And this is the point Greg, no one really knows how many are out there. But, basing my figures on a 10 year search has given me an indication of what is left, and there are not many left.

Re: Z on ebay...popo????
great points.
i know where 4 in alabama are and they are parts cars only. plus my sedan and s600 ( i dont count the S cause were talking n & z) anyway theyre in alabama!!
no one knows what they are in bama. so theyre all craped out 'cept for parts.
so im sure that there are some out there but they probably are all old and rotted out.
you should see the discussion on the datsun truck list. datsun doesnt even know how many trucks they made...sheesh
again great points bill thanks for the effort
