Okay - I'm about to get started on the 700cc high-compression engine for Bonneville (gee - three weeks . . . not much time!)
Have a transmission question - can anyone tell me how to differentiate the syncro vs. non-syncro trannie by looking at the internal parts?
I know that the one shifting fork is bigger on one of them - but I'm not sure which.
Also - does anyone know the ratios of the two different manual transmissions? I'm not sure if I've got the correct numbers.
My 1970 Honda Shop and Autobooks manuals shows:
2.529 1st
1.565 2nd
1.000 3rd
0.714 4th
My Honda Coupe manual (smaller white one) shows:
2.470 1st
1.565 2nd
0.967 3rd
0.675 4th
Besides counting teeth on gears, how can I tell them apart?
TIA,
Eric
Transmissions (Need tech help!)
Re: Transmissions (Need tech help!)
On the non-synch trans' differential gear there is a line running the
full diameter on side of the gear. The tranny's with synchros are
easy to spt because of the 4 bronze synchronizers. All the USA sold
coupes have synchro.

Thanks Miles - that was the tip I needed. Turns out some parts lists are too old to include the synco trannie . . .
