Trying to make my Honda a little quieter.

Post by Mike »

Hi guys.
I'm also trying to make my little 600cc Honda engine not quite so big on the noise level.
I currently have two glass packs under the car, but it's still quite loud.
I was looking for a simply fix, so I'd like to try adding some Diffuser Discs at the end of the tailpipe.
I've seen them on Harley's a lot, and I'm curious if anyone has any experience with these things?
Do they take away much sound volume? Or are they about as uneffective on a Honda engine as a glass pack?
Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

thanks,
Mike.

I had a 600 coupe that I lost the exhaust from the muffler back on a trip to Floroida,it was deafening. When I got to Ft Lauderdale I went to muffler shops but nobody could come up with a muffler that would work, so I had them weld a straight pipe on to get the noise out from under the car. It wasn't much better, so I hammered in a tail pipe from a VW Bug that has some glass packing in it. It helped a little, but then it had that wistle noise an old bug makes. I found it amazing on how loud a Honda 600 engine is without an exhaust.

Mike
my nos muffler was full of holes when I got my car and ended up taking to my muffler guy.  After  looking on the internet he found a muffler very close to the one on the car ( I think he had to shorten it a little).
It was one that goes on to a Large RV Generator.  I have been using if for two years now with no problems and sounds good.  I talked to him today so see if he has any idea which muffler he used and he didnt.

Thanks Tom, but I'd like to keep my glass packs.  I like to be able to hear it, I just don't want my ears to hurt after riding in it for more than ten minutes.

Brad,
That sounds pretty good for me. I rarely hit over 3500 rpm, even on the high way.
Do you know if the Harley muffler you used had the internal disc set? I think most of them do, but I'm not sure.
thanks,
Mike.

It was a new factory muffler that has a non removable internal baffel.

You might check the local harley shop.  They would probably give you one since they normally have lots of them laying around that they replace with louder pipes. That's where mine came from and it was free.

Paul,
That's a great idea. That sounds like a perfect device for mine. Thanks a lot. Rock and Roll.
