Window regulator plastic slide

Post by lyletrudell »

Was working on my Orange coupe tonight. My doors are disassembled and ready for body work and primer.
Everything works good, but my regulator guide has plastic slides that are broken, common from what I have read.
I will make replacements.
The problem is the rivots are welded on!
So it either needs to be ground off or drilled out. Then a special shouler bolt or pin needs to be welded or bolted back together, not easy for some owners.
I was thinking about making a new guide that will work with no modifications needed.
If anyone is interested in a set, email me.

Lyle,I have fixed several of those, and I found the perfect part for it. I used some plastic door rollers that I got at Home Depot. They are rollers designed for sliding glass doors for your home. They came in a pack with a pin and e-clip. I took the regulator and punched out the peen-ed in pin with a drift and installed the roller with the new pin and e-clip. Now I had to turn down the plastic roller a little to make it fit the window track, but the pin fit snugly through the hole in the regulator(where the old peen-ed in pin was) and the e-clip fit on as if it was made for it. So if you can find the door rollers with pin that I found,You will be amazed how good it worked. I do have some new rollers still in the package if you need a part # . Just let me know.   Brad From:

Hi Lyle;
I use the patio door rollers, they come with a bolt and by cutting them flat on two sides they slid just like the originals.  And at about $6.00 each set of two it is a cheap fix.

Brad, oops, didn't see your thread.   The great thing about it is that they work very well.  I even found some with ball bearings in them.

Hey, that sounds good. Will have to punch out one of the pins and see what I can find at Home Depot.
Brad if you can find the # for them that would be great.
I was going to make a 2 part, rectangle part with a hole in it.
Then just screw it together around the existing rivot.
But if your way works, then no reason to make something else.
Thanks

The company that made the parts I used is "Prime-Line, the part# on the package is B-551, Its labeled "Window & Door replacement hardware" for sliding screen door. There are 2 rollers and pins. I was wrong about an e-clip,it has retainer screw. But as I said,it works great.
