Well I finally stopped driving my 72 AZ600 and decided to give it a
good going over. So, in June of 2006 I started taking it apart. You
can see pictures of the body and things at:
http://www.ioperformance.com/Other%20Projects.htm
As of this writing the body (shell) has been *completely* taken
apart. The only bolts left on the shell were the door hinges.
Everything else has been removed including most of the large surface
paint (hood, doors, roof, ..etc.) and any bondo.
There were a couple of rust-through spots at the rear of the roof
channels that let water accumulate on the trunk floor causing it to
rust through. Rust through was also evident on the lower rear quarter
panels but it was minimal.
The body has been at Car Creations in Minneapolis, MN getting new
metal for the trunk floor, lower rear quarter panels, battery tray,
and leading all the little holes and small dents. The car was
also "kissed" on the front right at some point in its life resulting
in a slightly skewed front end. That is being twisted back into shape
by the frame magicians across the street from Car Creations. All the
other annoying dents have been straightend out on the fenders and
rear quarters - you know, those dents that come from kids trying to
lift the car up by grabbing the wheel wells.
Once all that is complete the shell and other body components will be
stripped of any remaining paint and then sent to the painter to get
that nice coat of ORANGE bringing it back to its original luster.
In the meantime, I need to get working on all the other fiddly bits
like rebuilding the engine, sand blasting and powder-coating all
sorts of things, ...etc.
