Brake Booster rebuilding

Post by Mark »

Seems I had problems years ago in having the rubber diaphragm not holding to
the piston assembly. I spun out on the lathe an aluminumn disc that
retained the diaphragm on the piston. It was a simple fix and maybe one of
the pros can explain more. This was back when the car was only 8 years old
and lost the power brake function.

Try calling Bush Power Brake, at XXX-XXX-XXXX. Bush has been able to bring
quite a few Honda 600 boosters (small black ones) back to life. Also talk
to White Post restorations at www.whitepost.com. And as to the booster
rubber being a problem, if the diaphragm is not leaking and the ends are
sealed, they can last for a very long time. I have even used a booster
diaphragm that was pulled off the back plate and laying on its side in the
housing. I RTV'd it in place and use wire ties to keep it there, and left
them on when I put it back together. I think there are still pictures of it
on the ANZ group site.
Also, Honda can get these items made, but to make this happen we need to
show that there is a need. One or two orders will not do it.

Has anybody had any luck in getting a booster rebuilt for a sedan? Miles
says he's out of parts, and 2 local rebuilding shops have had no luck.
What do you all do to get these working again? Tim Mings has an NOS one,
but the rubber in a 30 year old part can't be any good.
Ideas?
