Restored Z Coupe for sale.
I haven't looked at this, but I saw another restoration these guys did at an auction back in 2016.

Restored Z Coupe for sale.

Post by dm600z »

The restoration looks nice.  Some of the things I don't like are;
1.  The negative ground to the engine is all wrong will be a source of problems.  Look at the last photo and you will see the black negative cable going to the valve cover.
2.  The rear end seems to be raised too much ...... what did they do to the rear suspension?
3.  The rear window seems to have a lift arm added to keep it up.
4.  The seat pockets on the driver side are incorrect .... they should be positioned between the seats so you can access them while you are in the car with the doors closed.
5.  The seat upholstery pattern used is not the correct  (minor item).
6.   How much did they check out the engine?  While it looks clean from the outside,  does it have lots of old, tired parts on the inside?
While it looks nice,  I think the asking price is too high.  But I do hope there are people who are willing to give this person $22,000 for this car.
Happy motoring,
Dale
PS  Once self-driving cars become established,  the older cars are going to be banned from major highways.  Better enjoy your old cars while you can.

The lift arm is only a chunk of pipe or wood. It doesnt look like it is attached to the rear window.

That's probably right, the one that they sold at the Russo and Steele auction back in 2016 had the same thing. Odd, they do such a good job restoring his cars but they can't get the springs right on the window?

I agree rear hatch spring are tricky until you realize the workshop  manual picture is incorrect or vague at best the piece of pipe lets the whole restoration down! other than that it's very nice.

It's a 1971 Coupe listed as a '72. They need the rear bumperette rubber strips, looks like seats are swapped L & R, the seat tilts go toward doors, maybe they had the car on a lift when rear shackles were tightened causing rear end raise, chrome on lug nuts mangled, has original hatch springs and a stick jammed in to assist hatch - possibly the pawls are damaged, radio knob busted off, wrong cigarette lighter, carpets bunched up and wrong material, dash vent speaker warped, wonder what's under steering wheel wrap?, no battery hold down, odd grounding methods, horn should be black, missing long front engine bolt and has cooling fan bolts in cam housing where 55mm flange bolts should be. Braided hose on engine breather where black difficult to get thinwall tubing should be. The use of the word restored should be ignored and possibly repaired or refurbished and the person writing the ad has some real spelling issues.  Other than that body looks great!

Does this make my half restored version worth $11,000?

Seriously Ken, it really depends on which half youve restored. Additionally, there is about a 20% better value if youve restored the front right quarter and the left rear. However, you lose significant value from the $11,000 if the half youve restored is made up of the front left and rear right quarters.
