hi everyone:
my honda 1972 z600 has quit running altogether.
it used to run smoothley but without power. it would never make it to the red line. the camshaft timing and spark timing were good, compression was 160psi on each cylinder. points were not perfect but i thought that they polished up ok . i cleaned the carb but i have always doubted whether it was any good because it had a tendency to spit gas out the front.
then the car began to run with a speed up and speed down effect - like a governor gone nutty. now , it will not start at all.
compression is down to 120 per cylinder, and the camshaft timing is now way off. , i assume that the cam chain has jumped. i have lots of questions:
is the chain tension adjustable ?
does someone sell new timing chains with a master link?
is this an "interference engine" so that i may have bent valves ? (HORRORS !)
since the cam notch was originally in the right place, what caused the car's original lack of power?
i fearfully await replies. fred zampa
