My wife and I have slowly been getting a '71 sedan operational again after it had been sitting in a carport for thirty years. We cleaned the fuel tank and carb, put new fuel lines and filter in, new plugs, belt, oil, rebuilt master and slave cylinders new brake hoses, sandblasted and painted rims, new tires. It fired right up. We were ready for our first test run when we realized the brake lights didn't work they had new bulbs and the brake switch was pristine, no loose connections in the wiring. My wife searched old posts and found one by Miles explaining that most problems with lights can be found in the hazard switch. As a last resort I took the switch apart and it too looked pristine no corrosion at all. Upon closer inspection we notice one of the small brass contacts must have overheated and melted the surrounding nylon. I carefully x-actoed off the melted nylon so that the sprung contact could move freely. Sure enough the brake lights worked. We were off and running. What a blast.
Thank You to Miles and all the other posters who share their expertise. You are helping more people than you realize.
