Hi Greg,
You have mentioned going 90 mph in a 600 sedan ......
does your car have a stock engine?   When I look at the performance curves on the 600 (torque and bhp),  it appears the best the car should do is no more than 70 mph and this is putting you into red line on engine rpm (6,000 rpm).   Did you drive it at 90 mph or 90 km/hr?

I was thinking the exact same thing. A standard N600 isnt capable of 90mph. Maybe the speedometer isnt working correctly.

Honda 600's will go as fast as you can make them go and then they
will blow up. Red line is 6000 rpm and speed at that point with 145
SR10 tires and the synchromesh trans is 75mph.
I drove a Z600 with original 4 speed non synch trans and RHD across
Germany in caravan with a Honda S800 and an MGB back in 1984 at 85mph
until we got to England, then the speed limit was 55mph. We were on
our way to The Isle Of Man Honda S800 car meet. Driving back across
Holland to Germany was at the break neck speed again of 85mph. I was
taching well into 7000 rpm's, but was not my car, belonged to Martin
Weigert who is a Honda master mechanic/collector there in Germany.
The blue car should have 520 x 10 Bia Ply tires which are taller,
though from the pics looked to have had the 145 -10's. That car has
the earlier non synch engine and the top speed may be different on
the speedometer especially since the tires wrong size and the speedo
drive gear won't be matched to the wheels, so it's more likely you
were doin' 85.
Now, as far as restoring it. If the paint is original, even though it
has a ding, it will devalue the car to paint it. If it was my car and
the body had original excellent paint, I would clean up the engine
bay, rebuild what needs rebuilding, replace the carpets etc and never
touch the paint. You do those things and you will double the value of
the car, redo the chrome but not overdo the quality. The original
chrome had factory scratches in it, might be hard to duplicate. I'd
avoid doing 90mph as cranks are all gone. Last retail on one was
$1600.00, though I hear you can get rebuilts from Germany for
$1600.00.

It's not the original paint. I was doing 70 on the freeway last night
with no trouble whatsoever. When we brought it home, I was doing 75
in my 2006 Mini-Cooper S and the guy pulled away from me for about 10
seconds by at least 10 to 15 mph. So go figure? The cool thing is, my
wife loves it!!!! Mainly because I have to buy her another purse.
That's the deal, I buy a car, I buy her a purse. I can live with that!

One other thing, I'm not as concerned about value as I am about
having a decent car that looks great and would be an easy restoration.

i've had my '72 z600 up to an indicated 95 with no problems at all--won't do it again, as it IS probably pretty stressful on her, but she is quite happy at 65-70 ALL DAY LONG--with a lot of pedal left--maybe greg and i just got lucky--

I'd rather be lucky than good. It was for just 10 seconds or so. Made
me really glad I bought the car. Better than him limping along at 55.

When I lead a group of 600's to the Japanese Classic Car Show in 2005,
I was going 60MPH in my Coupe. Everyone was keeping up just fine, but
when we got there, ALL FIVE of the Sedan drivers said I was going 70
or more. Knowing that my speedometer wasn't THAT far off, I borrowed
a GPS, and verified that my car was going exactly 60 and 65 when my
speedometer said so. Maybe you should all go borrow a GPS and THEN
tell us how fast you can go.
I've never gone over 80, which was red-line back when the car and I
were a lot younger. That was with a stock engine and my parents in
the car (and probably downhill). Maybe it could have gone faster, but
I'm a coward.

i'm sure my speedo is dead on at least until 70--as i said before, my "high speed run" was a one-time only thing---i hate to abuse my stuff--it only leads to unneccessary expense---the car wasn't built to be raced, anyway
