Well, not a great day today.
The afternoon drive back from my car meet turned stormy and really windy.
Driving into a head wind, my bonet catch gave way and the bonnet flew up
against the windscreen and roof before one of the hinges broke and the
bonnet sailed round to the passenger side of the car and scraped on the
road!
A further 15km drive home so the bent bonnet was wired down and a slow drive
home!
The damage is major for the bonnet, lots of bent metal, scrapes etc etc. the
body came off lightly. A deep gouge under the passenger side of the
windscreen.
I'll be attaching a spare bonnet in the meantime until $$ are freed up for
repairs.
Quite a fright!
Lesson learnt: make sure bonnet catch is securely fastened!

Bonnet catch failed!
Re: Bonnet catch failed!
Well that has to be a dis-heartning event, did you catch that one on video?? I know that we have had bad weather about of late, so I best be checking my catch's also. At least you stayed on the grey stuff, and the car is mostley intact, shame about the bonnet, though I guess repairable.
You know there ia always without a doubt, somthing to be done to these wee machines, whether it be mechanical, or asthetic. Though understandably, this is somthing that you could do wuthout.
WE send our sympaties out to your bonnet, and wish it a speedy recovery. And that the wounds to the rest of the car heal just as quick.
All the best James. If there is anyhting I can do to be of any help, just let us know.
Regards

Lucky your windshield didn't crack, most times they do on sedans when
the hood flies open.
Miles

Re: Bonnet catch failed!
maybe we should widen the hood about 4 feet and raise the rear hinge about 6 inches and with the foil shape of the hood just maybe we can make a 600 really fly. a little smile might help the hurt? Flying Michael................up,up.and away

I really appreciate your humor! Might try a set of Shocks from a HUMMER 2 at each corner to smooth out the landings.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you James...I've watched the growth of
your little red N360, and it saddens me to see you get a set back like
that!!! I hope all else is well!! Carry on!

Re: Bonnet catch failed!
Hi J;
I had a similar hood problem, the catch bolt came loose from the front of
the Hood, it just dropped off and stayed with the catch. I was lucky not to
have been moving to fast when it happened. The issue here is that back in
the early 70's Honda had a check list of bolts, wires, parts in general that
were supposed to be checked at least annually. The shop manuals go over
some of these but not on a list. Dealerships had their own forms made up to
capture many of these points. Does any one have a copy they might share?
