Hello everyone,
I own a 72 z600 with only 19000 miles,but every time i try to go
over 45mph it stalls and sputters.
I have done a major tuneup to it,replaced the fuel pump, regapped
the point, cleaned out the fuel tank 3 times, cleaned the carb several
times,but still to no avail.
I had asked for advice before, but unfortunately nothin worked.
If any one has any ideas please pass them on to me.
thanks bill.

you checked the large diaphram if it does.I assume you changed the

Bill, Will It rev-up to say 6000 rpm's in 1st thru 3rd. gear? If
not, there could be problems such as weak spark, bad mechanical
advancer,incorrect ignition timing,vacuum leak,carb problems,etc. If
it goes ok in the lower gears, but seems to die out at 45mph plus,it
may be a fuel delivery problem, meaning you need to check the volume
of fuel coming out of the line disconnected from the carb. Turn key
on with hose in a empty 16 oz. beer can,and it should fill it in
about 1 minute or thereabouts. riceburner006

I had the same problem with mine. Sputtered like a Bi***h, and it stayed that way until I took it to Tim Mings, and he discovered that when I put a new timing chain in, I was off by a tooth! The 600 screams all the way up to near 90 now!times, but still to no avail.

Re: stalling problems
Without it being here to examine, I would do a compression test, check out
the exhaust system, look at the timing chain to see if it is off a tooth.
Touch the rear breaks to see of they are heating up. Then do a vacuum test
on the advancer assembly and hose to the carb. Place a timing light on the
pulley and see where it is when idling. Something is not right or it would
be doing the speed.
