The problem is most don't even have a chance at Half-Assing it. Significant problems with repair manuals written without specifications or size limits for reuse of internal parts, has caused many well intended restorers to believe they were doing things right when everything they do is set to fail. I had an owner bring in his car saying the front wheels would not turn but the half shafts were turning from the engine. He had used torque settings for a Chevy on his front wheel axel nuts (hand tight and back it off a 1/4 turn) When the true setting is 150 pounds feet. Or as some of the old folks used to say "Crackin tight". The splines for the front hubs were completely stripped and both axels had to be replaced.
