I tell you, this little car can put up a good fight. I had the
starter rebuilt-ok now that works. Now it cranks-no start. I just
want to try to be clear on the cam timing. Right now if I check the
cam timing: The crankshaft pulley mark lines up with the "T" on the
case, Pulled the sparkplug and verified TDC-Yes, Opened the oil cap
and saw the cam notch lined up with the cam side cover upper slot-
Yes. In my mind that would be perfect timing, but then again, it is a
honda. Is there any posibility that I might have screwed up the dist
drive to cam timing? This car is getting gas and spark, but pops
during cranking like the timing if off. What am I overlooking??

Colin: I'm not the ultimate authority, but my N600 has a three inch
alignment line scribed on the cam - not a notch. Could you be
looking at the wrong alignment mark? Joel

Re: Timing, back on the road
Never mind, I figured out what I did wrong. I had the little cam lobe
thing in the distibutor 180 off. Flipped it around and it fired right
up. Engine runs great, but it still has that damn load ticking sound,
the whole reason I tore it apart for. Had my starter rebuilt today,
works great and it only cost me $68. NOw I just need to find out
where my noise is coming from.

I had the same problem. Strange as it may seem, the exaust pipe under the carb heat tin was cracked and fouling the air filter and putting a lot of exhaust into the air supply going into the carb. Sounds farfetched but I worked at it for about three months before the crack finally gave way and the pipe dropped down.

Hi Colin;
Did you ever get a mechanics stethoscope, they seek out and find all
kinds of troubles.
