Rear Shocks
Rear Shocks
Since I put my RX7 13" mags with 50 series tires on my Z600 the rear end feels like the shocks are gone. Is there an available substitute or do I need to get some shocks with springs to beef up the rear end? I can't think why the suspension needs to be stronger so I suspect the shocks have given out. This chassis has over 99000 miles on it so I suspect the shocks do too. I appreciate your advice.

Re: Rear Shocks
The front shocks from a 69 through 71 VW with ball joints will fit. But you must use a hammer on the spot weld on body and grind off about 1/2 inch of the lower end to make it accept the washer and nut. It will take all the sway out of the body, all of it !

Re: Rear Shocks
- I have notes from somewhere on what will work for rear shocks for
my sedan: Try shocks from a 1973 or 1974 B210. I do not know if this
will work for both sedan and coupe. Anybody else know?

Dear Sir, We stock tons of NOS parts for the old Honda cars. May this be notified to the group or would you consider this as spam?
Kind regards,
Michael

What type of parts do you have? Do you have a list by part Honda number and Price?

Re: Rear Shocks
Hi Ray;
The front shocks for a 69 through 71 VW with Ball Joints on the front
end will fit, you must grind the lower mount down (on each side) and flatten
the body seam to keep it from rubbing. It will be very stiff and give you
maximum cornering capability. You will feel every bump in the road. I like
the VW, because they will soften up after a few months of use and they seem
to correct much of the play in the struts if there is any. Another option
is the front shock from a 67 through 69 Datsun 520 pickup. I have been told
this will fit perfect and you can get a softer riding shock for this
application at some of the custom parts stores, e.g. lowrider types. Either
are running about $20.00 to $30.00 each.

Re: Rear Shocks
How about the struts too. I need a set and have not put the time into looking for them yet. We have to keep the bounce even front and back!

struts rebuilding
You can dismantle & rebuild the struts. Once the spring is off,
unscrew the top nut of the cartridge. Take the top nut & shaft to a
bearing store and match up the seal. It is a very tall seal, so you
may end up stacking 2 seals in the nut. Dump the remaining oil out of
the strut and refill with aprox 6 to 7 oz shock oil. Use heavier oil
for stiffer ride. Koni used to make struts for the 600, but good luck
finding any. They made rear shocks too.
