Your right Mike, it does sound like timing, but I would check the plug wires
along with every thing else. Leave the plugs in and put another in each of
the wires and watch for spark. To much movement around the wires and the
ends tend to loosen up even fall out of the ends. Odd as it may seem, your
Honda 600 will run on one cylinder if the circuit is complete e.g. The plug
is attached to the plug wires on both sides and making a good ground.
I managed to limp home a couple of times with one plug blown out but still
attached. What speed could I make? Well with half the engine working it
made half the RPM's along with half the speed. I tore the engine down and
noted no damage, put it back to gather with some Keenserts in the plug holes
to repair the threads and it is still running down the road.

I had trouble getting my Z600 to start.  After checking everything about 5 times, something became the straw that broke the camel's back and the exhaust pipe that hooks into the exhaust manifold had broken completely through.  Until it let go completely I couldn't see it because the tin that surrounds it for the carb heat hid what must have been just a crack at first.  I even had Mike O'Connor rebuild the carb in my attempts.  Since Miles sold me an exhaust pipe the car runs like a dream.  Sometimes symptoms that appear to be definable are hiding problems that are obscure.
