New N600 Owner(hopefully)
Re: New N600 Owner(hopefully)
Hi Becky,
Don't buy a rusty Honda Z600. It is just not worth the effort as much nicer cars are just not that expensive. I don't know what your budget is but I have five Z600's and I was thinking about parting with one or two of them. They are all very noce cars from a very nice original that needs a little work to two very nice running driving cars, to a car that is 85% restored and just needs finishing. If you are serious about buying a Z600, please contact me and we can arrange to get you up here to have a look.
Also, we host the Gould's Annual Microcar & Minicar Classic Event here in Newton (near Boston), Massachusetts on July 12, 13 and 14, 2013. You are welcome to attend and see all of the unusual microcars and minicars that attend this European style driving event. Everyone else is also invited. It is three days of microcar lunacy including four driving tours, activities, parties, Memphis barbecue, frozen Margarita party and much, much more. Check out all of the details at www.bubbledrome.com

What's your budget Becky? Maybe someone here has a car they're sitting on that they might be willing to part with. Like I said I have 2-3 extra cars that I need to part with atleast one. Someone very well may have one they could get running so that you already have a running car to start with and maybe just needs a brake job and some minor repairs to be road worthy. Might not be the nicest looking but you can make it your own then still.

Re: New N600 Owner(hopefully)
There's a z600 on eBay right now. Green in TX going for 1200. Looks to be pretty clean minimal rust. Not much of a description though about what's going on with it. That might be a good starter car. I think it has new tires so atleast it should roll.
I've used uship before to ship cars with decent results. It's pretty much like eBay for shipping anything. People will bid on your shipment. You can go on the website and atleast get some estimates. Make a dummy listing to see what people quote you to ship it.

Re: New N600 Owner(hopefully)
Eric's right. Uship found an independent hauler (guy with Ford F-250 and trailer) for my Z that wasn't terribly expensive. You may have to wait a bit, but someone somewhere will have an empty truck or trailer and be headed your way. Even shipped from Zimbabwe, it'll be cheaper and less painful than bodywork. And I too was an impecunious college student when I bought my Z online and had it shipped. The fact was that I really, really wanted a solid car (after having owned a rotten one) and I figured I could deal with mechanicals, but not proper bodywork. After a few years of working and dutiful saving (no beer, no vacations, very used textbooks, taking the bus, etc.), it was a delightful moment when my car arrived.
The KEY with a long distance sale is rapport with the seller. Lots of pictures, phone conversations, etc. Even then I was still a bit nervous until my car showed up. But the seller had been very fair in his descriptions.

Re: New N600 Owner(hopefully)
There are a few in Ga, but they don't run and no matter how good it looks on the outside, I don't want to pay a ton for something that's not running. It's just frustrating because I want one now. The thought of waiting a full year just kills me.

Although, if any of you have one you are willing to sell. I'm definitely interested.

Re: New N600 Owner(hopefully)
Hi Becky,
I sold a decent, non rusty runner for $2,500 last year, and they are still out there. Shipping will only add around $400 to $700 to the purchase price, and it is cheaper and less painful than bodywork. Also, unless an engine is compleely trashed, mechanical repairs should also be cheaper and less painful than bodywork, so you may consider rethinking your priorities.
Mechanical problems (except a completely engine rebuild) are relatively simple and inexpensive to address, whether you can afford to do it now or later, and others on this list may live close enough to actually come over to help you address these issues.
Rust repairs however, will take forever and cost a fortune and very few on this list will want to help deal with rust issues.
So, if you can get an honest description about why a car has not run, it might be better to buy a non runner over a rusted hulk that does run. Also, some car have not run in years simply becuase nobody tried to get them started. I have had incredible luck firing up literally hundreds of cars that were purchased as non runners, including three Honda Z600s!

Re: New N600 Owner(hopefully)
Becky,
I highly recommend expanding your search to farther places. Tennessee is a place where cars tend to rust due to the winters.
I travelled almost 1400 miles to get my Honda when I finally found a good one.
Travelling far to get a treasure that you really want can be a really fun adventure to.
good luck.
Mike.
