This could be caused by a defective ignition switch, or bad fuel solenoid shut off, or even stale fuel or partially clogged fuel line or carburetor.
I doubt that it is rings if it starts at all.

I have a sign in my garage, “You get what you inspect not what you expect” so even though I agree with Charles, make a list and go through it checking off each area as you go. Remember, the problem is normally the last thing you check.
