Piston Rings for stock 71 sedan

Post by promoter213 »

Hello everyone,
Long time, I appreciate being able to come here when I have new problems/projects. Well heres my new story...my car has been running great but recently noticed lower power when going up hill. I live on a hill so I drive it everyday and it just didnt feel like it had the juice it normally does. Checked compression and it was below normal. Opened her up and there it was, broken rings (oil) . Never replaced them since Ive owned it, so who knows how long its been in there. Im just glad I caught in in time with no damages.
My question is, for those that have replaced/rebuilt what rings are you using and are the hastings brand the only ones available to use? stock, no bore.
thanks everyone

I have found that 74mm hastings rings on eBay for about $79.41 part number 2C9500....you might want to check the specs for yourself but my research these should be correct.

Did you take the motor out or left it in the car?

I originally left motor in car and was successful in breaking it down and removing and installing rings. Then found out my piston rod driver side had some play and felt like the bearing was worn or broken. Then I find out that you can't just replace the bearing since the crankshaft is pressed to the rods. So rather than ignoring what might be a future problem I decided to drop the motor and replace the crankshaft/rods
Fun times!
