Re-Built Cam Chain Tensioners available.

Post by Mike »

Hi guys.
So I meant to get these done a long time ago, but I've had some free time this summer and I've got some cam chain tensioners available again.
I just put one on Ebay linked here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-N600-Z600 ... 92&vxp=mtr
And I'm working on few more.
If you want to skip the whole ebay thing, I'll sell them to group-members here for $130 free shipping. If you need the guide wheel to, then I'll do $160 for the tensioner PN 14500-568-000 and guide wheel PN 14630-568-000 combination free shipping as well.
I also have two brand new cam chains available as well. I'll sell them for $30 each. They both are the type with an open link.
My email is megamike78@...
thanks!

Hey Mike, I am about a year or so from looking at digging into the engine that far. Would like to replace cam chain along with tensioner and guide wheel. I hope you have them available - perhaps in Sept. I can afford these must have parts!

Hi Bob,
And don't forget the cam chain slipper at the front of the cylinder.
What sounds are you hearing that motivate you to want to change all those parts?  If you are digging into the engine that deep,  you will also need to replace the head gasket and check out the pistons, rings, and connecting rods. And while you have everything apart,  you might as well check out the valves in the cylinder head.
And some of the bolts and rubber cushions on the fan assembly may need replacement.  You will find it isn't a lot of fun working this deep on the engine while it is in the car.  I normally drop the engine and this also gives me a chance to easily check out the clutch area.   And while you are in the area of the clutch,  there is always the oil pump to check out.
Sounds like a good winter project.   Good luck,
Dale

Thanks - all good ideas. If I decide to dig into the motor, I will probably pull it. I have no noises per se, and after I get the car running (currently putting on an oil cooler) I will run a compression check and pull the valve cover to check clearances and such and will use the guide to determine how much the chain has been stretched (if at all).
I guess what motivates me (not that I am hearing any noises) is that I rebuilt one in the 80's and it ran for about 2000 miles before the chain cut through the cylinder walls! Older and much more wiser now (wife differs) I know what to look for. I know Miles worked on this car/engine about 10 years ago, so I'm sure what needed to be done was. But, that was 10 years of miles ago and I don't know how much abuse the engine had over those 10 years.
Thanks again for the advice.

Bob,
I think I might still have a set in September. Just let me know. Although, if the cam chain and parts were replaced 10 years ago, the ones in your car MIGHT still be ok. 10 years is a decent amount of time, but miles are what really wear these parts out. How many miles have you put on your car in that much time? Does it run ok? How fast do you go on the highway? Do you even go on the highway in this car? Just curious.

Thanks Mike. No idea how many miles were put on since it was rebuilt. After rebuild carb and renu'ing gas tank and pickup tube, and new point/plugs/condensor, cars runs well. Don't go on the highway, just around town, probably 45 mph at most.

Sounds good. I would take a bright light and shine it down into the engine. You should be able to see the guide wheel and also the sprocket on the tensioner. The tensioner sprocket is hard to see. It's on the back side down low. With a bright light, you ought to be able to see if it is getting worn out. However, this will tell you very little about the chain.
