Don't get me wrong, I am taking a look at this from the appraisal view, and just want to give a few facts new Honda 600 owners should be looking at when purchasing one for the first time.
1967 Really?
Three things come to light, 1 - Honda 600 Coupes didn't begin production until April 1971.  2 - Looking at the rear bumper it seems to be a early coupe meaning it was built between April and Dec 1971, looking at the vin/chassis number and date on the black plate would give you it's correct date.  3 - there were no Red Honda 600 Coupes made.  They came in Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue.  And it's missing a number of parts just looking at it.  (front bumper over rider, window moldings on the doors, front emblem, license plate bracket, hubcaps,,, to name just a few)  So take all of these things into account when making the deal.  Are these items with the car? Does it start, run and stop? Do the numbers match?  Does it have a clear title?   The add says it just had carb and cam chain work.  I would open the valve cover and check the cam chain slipper, center wheel and lower tension wheel.   A loose cam chain can raise heck with an engine.
If everything checks out, $1700,00 is a great deal.

Thank you Bill your keen eye and knowledge is why I always turned to you on my oil cooler issues. This is actually a 1972 coupe, I responded to another ad for a 1967 sedan and didn't change the title. I have the grill and over rider which were taken off for my oil cooler set up. I have many extra parts including the front emblem but it has broken tabs on the back of it. You are correct on the color not being original, from what I can see in the engine bay it used to be orange. It has a clear title and runs great. The cam chain actually wasn't loose when I did it but when I saw it was a motorcycle motor I knew from previous experience the havoc a bad chain could cause so I felt safest just changing it out. Thank you for helping me make the ad more clear Bill :)

Hi Eddie;
As I said, at the price you have the car listed for it's a great deal.  And, i f you have all the parts it's a good idea to say so when selling collector cars, just because good usable parts are getting so darn hard to find and when they are found there is condition issues and shipping.
You are also correct in changing out the cam chain when there are considerable miles showing on the clock and when doing the quick test you find that there is some slack in the cam chain.
A nd was the cam chain changed out with a heavy duty chain or an original Honda cam chain?  The issue there is that as explained in the Sedan Shop manual page 4-26; the cam sprocket route diameter should be checked as the wear between the teeth can also cause a loose cam chain.  Some of the heavy duty cam chains have more meat on the rollers taking up the sprocket wear.
    But there are other factors that I find more important; like registration and is it titled?  Does it have good tires or are they older and showing cracks on the side walls?   Are there any cracks in the Hatch, most older Honda 600 Coupes have large cracks in the top outside edges indicating more problems on the back side of the hatch.
    What really makes your car a deal is the fact that it has good brakes, and it runs.  Getting the brakes back in good operating condition can be a major cost.
Thanks for letting other members of the group have first shot.

This is a plug for White Post Restorations

Post by Bill »

A few months back I had the power booster on my Coupe rebuilt by White Post Restorations.  Yes, when I first restored the car all the cylinders including the booster were brass sleeved and booster piston shafts were rechromed back to their original diameter.  This is for a 1972 Honda 600 Coupe that has very little mileage over the past dozen years. The rubber diaphragm deteriorated and developed a leak, along with a couple of seals in the puppet valve cylinder that were not available.
 But if the diaphragm needs to be changed most shops just won't do it.  They don't want the liability of your unit going bad.
 The people at White Post Restorations stepped up and did a really great job.
    Now don't get me wrong, I had to supply a good (not just new) booster diaphragm but they did all the rest including Gold Zinc plating of the bolts and diaphragm can.
    They said it would not be cost efficient for them to have the diaphragm made because there are not enough Honda 600 boosters ( application for Honda 600's built after April 1971 Coupe and August 1971 for Sedan's ) asking to be rebuilt.   Part Number 04407-623-003 is the one we are talking about.   Honda 600 Sedans built between April and August 1971 have the breather pointing down instead of up at the end of the cylinder.  B ut these cars can use the later booster and most were already changed out.  I think there are enough of us who still want to have power assisted brakes on our cars that it would be feasible for them to have the diaphragms made.
     This is the shop that will take your old crappy brake cyli nders and make them new again including new seals.  Yes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and the power booster. (if we can get them to make the booster diaphragm)
