My choke knob/cable is really stiff. Needs 2 hands to pull. The choke itself is fine.
Can anyone lead me to a source for a replacement cable?
Thanks.

Choke cable repacement..
Re: Choke cable repacement..
George,if it were mine I would try to restore your old cable if it is just stiff to try to keep thing original. I would remove cable assembly, which consist of cable housing and cable wire, then first make sure cable wire is straight at the carb end, if it has kinks, straighten with pliers, then with the help of penetrating oil try to pull the cable wire out of the housing. Then just clean, lube and straighten any kinks out of both parts. If all goes well, the cable wire should slide easily now in the housing. Then I usually go to an electronics supply and get a length of heat shrink wrap and cover the cable housing to seal it. I feel it is always worth trying to salvage the original part first, if you can't, then replace it. Hope this helps out a little. Brad, Classic Auto Service Dallas From:

Re: Choke cable repacement..
Hi George;
There are two choke cables out there. Early and Late. The late ones (after April 1971) you can loosen the part that goes into the dash and it should loosen the cable. Or take it out check for bends and kinks and then lubricate it. If it is one of the early ones, the plastic nut on the back side of the dash can be loosened to allow the nylon strip to loosen up which will allow the cable to move more freely. So if the nut on either unit is to tight they it will drag. Try these and let us know how it works.

Thanks. I'll try it.
I'd rather keep the original.

Re: Choke cable repacement..
Hi,
I got it lubed up nicely so it moves freely when straight, but when curved in the installed position it is still very sticky. I think a channel has been worn on the inside circumference of the arc inside the housing and the cable is jamming in the groove inside. I'm going to try rotating the cable housing 180 degrees and see if a fresh smooth surface is there to travel against.
Any other bright ideas?

Re: Choke cable repacement..
I think you have the right idea. Other thought would be to try to curve the cable a little more where it is curving to kind of form it to that shape. Or maybe a thicker lube and work it back and forth as curving cable. I don't recall ever having that problem with one, but it is possible there is a burr or the outer housing is kinking when curving. I think if you work with it it will be ok. Brad From:
