cam chain replacement

Post by robert martinez »

Hi guys .. this is the first time I post and hopefully I'm able to contribute.. I have 3 sedans and the last one I bought I found out the engine was stuck .. so I went ahead and opened it and well you know, cylinders were rusted .. so I'm going to try and change anything that can and needs to be changed like the can chain... so after 2 days of researching and finding out that the chain is classified as 219 .. with 108 links .. it is possible to get a 219 chain with more links than you need and just use a masterlink.. but personally I don't like that idea. I guess it might be possible to use one of these as to avoid dissasembling the engine.. well to the point... the motorcycles that use a 219chain with 108 links are all Yamaha. They are ; the FZR1000 89-96, GTS1000 93-96, YZF1000 96-99. I could be wrong but you can email me so I can show you where I came up with the info .. on eBay the chains are running around $53 +shipping .. now the only thing I can't seem to find a replacement for is the drive chains ... my measurements are crude. But I think they classify as 06b its a British standard .. if anybody can help my find those chains , it would be much appreciated .. somebody correct me if any of the above is incorrect .. I don't want to point people in the wrong direction

Hi Robert,
I just bought a very nice looking z600 tested and fully working chain from Bill Colford. He has been working on 600 for a very long time and knows the cars very well. I'd buy the chain from Bill or ask him what he thinks about this one. (email is billmyong@...
).
I also bought a set of upholstery for the car which I found to be perfect.

That's true .. we should consult with him .. I did see he sells the cam chain.. but I saw that it is one with a master lilnk... I wanted one that was endless .. .. because an HD chain is only as strong as its weakest link... so I went on the hunt to find a bike that has a 219 chain stock .. from there we have a choice to use the oe one oR get an aftermarket HD chain ... I just ordered mine yesterday .. when I get it ill let you guys know. But on a side note does any one know where I would be able to get the roller guides?

The Cam Chain I have comes with a hardened master link, the edges of both pins must be peened over the just as all the rest of the chain is. When finished it is as strong as the other links.
