Hi, need some help with my carb.
I dis-assembled everything and all parts look good, just lots of deposits from old gas.
I was able to get all passages open and cleaned out....Except one!
And I can't find a picture of it in the parts catalog.
It's the only small brass tube that protrudes into the throttle bore.
Closest to the air cleaner.
Does anyone know what size hole is in it?
The smallest pin gauge I have is .011" and it won't go through.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lyle

Re: Carb Cleaning
Hi Lyle,
There is a "carb teardown" section here...
http://www.honda600coupe.com/Petersens_1972.pdf
... hopefully it will help, though I am not certain it shows your particular carb. It does not list any inside diameters.

Re: Carb Cleaning
Hi Lyle;
I too have had the same problem in the past. I spoke to my Dentist and he supplied some route canal tools which were really small hand drills and all really worked well for most of the issues. But the best tool was a long wire drill which could travel into the passages. Short story, talk to your Dentist, they work in tight often wet and drafty areas daily.

Re: Carb Cleaning
Hi Steve, thanks for the info. I down loaded that from your website yesterday....great site by the way!
The brass tube is not shown in any picture I can find.
I have a limited carb background, but I think this tube is the accelerator pump injector tube.
*The diaphram accelerator pump sucks fuel (on the back stroke) from the float chamber.
*When the throttle is opened the cam & pump rod pushes the diaphram forward and pumps fuel into the brass injector tube.
*But their should be a ball (one way)check valve, that keeps fuel from pumping back into the float bowl?
???
I will work on getting that tube out, or drill out.
Thanks again
Lyle

Re: Carb Cleaning
Hi Bill, thanks for responding.
Good idea, I have used some dental tools in the past for working on deburring small parts I make.
I have drills as small as .006" in diameter.
I just don't know what size goes through the tube?
The jet in the float bowl is about .011" that goes to the pump diaphram.
I will try that size.
?
Also, where is the (one way) ball check valve in the accelerator pump system?
Thanks

Re: Carb Cleaning
Lyle;
All the hand drills are tapered from very fine to almost a 64th of an inch.
The check valve is at the rear of the accelerator pump area with the valve at the top of the bowl all the way to the rear. The rubber gasket between the bowl and the body seals the passageway. This is why having all the screws doing their job is necessary.

Re: Carb Cleaning
I have no clue how this car ran! The choke always being on helped.
Finally got the carb passages open. 38 years of deposits and neglect made this a tough job!!!
To open up the injector tube, I used a .013" step drill, and a pin vise....carb cleaner and cutting oil.
Made a couple special punches to remove my stuck main jets without damaging them.
Thanks Bill, yep I found the check valve ball.
Now I know how this carb works, like everything just have to take it apart and take notes, very simple design.
Things that need to be replaced/repaired:
*All the O-rings, in the carb and intake manifold.
*Float bowl gasket, stock gasket doesn't line up with passages very well!
*Accelerator pump diaphram, still good but rubber is cracking.
*Fuel inlet needle and seat, I could rework the old needle.
*fuel screen/filter under fuel seat, this is still in good shape?
*rubber plug between the main jets.
Does anyone sell a carb rebuild kit????
Thanks for the help.
