Jamie;
    Most mag rims (Aluminum) are 5 inches wide, although some are 3.5 inches and some are 7 inches wide.  I will speak to the 5 Inch wide mag as they are the most common.  The wider rim allows a greater amount of rubber to be on the road while using the same 145X10 tire.  You will lose unsprung weight, most have a combined weight loss of about 12 pounds.  Although some information has been said that Mag rims cause wheel bearing wear, I have not noticed any, as most of the cars I have used them on didn't have new wheel bearings when I put the rims on.  What I have noticed is that if the front axel is removed the castle nut is not tightened properly causing the spline to strip.
This nut needs to be torqued to 165 Ft. Lbs.  And, if the front end seems to drift or pull, realign the front end, and before changing the tie rod ends, check the pinion shaft bushings on the rack.
    I hope this answered your question.
