Colin;
    If you throw enough money at anything it will eventually work.  The issue here is Modified or not.
If we get together and find a shop that will remanufacture the crankshaft then we have a better chance of keeping these cars on the road.  The cost has to be less than custom engineering a power unit into the front end of a Honda 600.  Besides the motor there is the suspention, fuel capacity, steering not to mention a break system that will stop this thing when it leaves the station.   I am sure there is at least 50 bad crankshafts available to work with.   I have heard of stories, never the results.
Any one open to this?

Bill
I have a very good friend her in Maine that owns his own machineshop with cad cam capabilities that would consider manufacturing crank parts.  He recently cast aluminium housings from scratch and machined all the internal parts for a guy who wanted to reproduce some sort of Indian motorcycle distributor.  This guy is an engineer for Fairchild and probably made the controler in your cellphone - he does the machine work on the side.  Now when I say on the side its not like he is a small operation he makes everything from custom tools for jewlers to a new spindle for a catapiler tractor that was 6 or 8 " in diameter. His war vintage lathe is 18' long and his cad cam machine rivals what you see on teh motorcycle shows not to mention the autofeed lathe that was making these little decorative knobs three a minute from 12' long stock and there were thousands in this bin....
Let me know if there is any interest in talking with him about it...my guess is it would be an upfront cost to drw the parts and produce a couple of test pieces....

I have tried contacting John Kauffman, and will try again. His
website is www.kmsenginedevelopment.com - John's a great guy, but very
busy. He probably has the capabilities to help us out with this.
He's a Honda fanatic, and does some work with kart racing, so small
enigne technology is not new to him. I'll see if I can get in touch
with him to talk about it someday soon.

I had a machine shop owner in Long Beach approach me about sponsoring
Evil Tweety. They do parts for aircraft. I could check and see if he
had interest - he sure was excited by seeing the car racing. Any idea
what folks are willing to pay for a new crank? (What folks ask and
what folks get are two different things . . . )
