Hey yall
are there any hopes of one stuffing a 4 cylinder in one of these
babys and what type of 4 cylinder should one chose?

Jamie,
The early civic engines were road tested by Honda in the 600 sedans. I
have seen a couple of sedans with the civic engines mounted under the hood. Of
course this required some modifications.

Jamie,
I didn't look too closely. The grill had been removed to better
accomadate the radiator. The owner had fabricated a new grill. the
engine/transmission was mounted on a sub frame but I don't remember if it was
as 600 or civic subframe. I beleive that he used the 600 front suspention
struts but I didnt looke underneith to see how it was all put together. Out on
the highway he left me feeling like I was standing still. That is abut all I
can offer as the last time I saw this vehicle was in '78.

This is a California State wide alert, contact your representatives and make
sure this bill does not go into effect.
This law if allowed to go into effect, will make it mandatory for all
vehicles less than 45 years old to be under the smog laws. Honda 600's were
never smog-able before but this would change that. Why you ask, why would
this cancel the old smog laws? Because they were canceled when the
(vehicles) older than 1973 law took effect and now are no longer on the
books. This will make smogging two cylinder vehicles or less than 50 cubic
inches (850 cc) engines all over again.
We need to stop this now!!!
Please read on at the attached site and you will see what I am talking
about. Below is what is being stated the intent of modifying the existing
law.

An act to amend Section 44011 of the Health and Safety Code,
relating to air pollution.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 708, as introduced, Florez. Air pollution: smog check.
(1) Existing law establishes a motor vehicle inspection and
maintenance program (smog check), administered by the Department of
Consumer Affairs and the State Air Resources Board, that provides for
the inspection of all motor vehicles, except those specifically
exempted from the program, upon registration, biennially upon renewal
of registration, upon transfer of ownership, and in certain other
circumstances. Existing law exempts from those requirements, until
January 1, 2003, any motor vehicle manufactured prior to the 1974
model-year, and after that date, any motor vehicle that is 30 or more
model-years old.
This bill would delete the exemption for those motor vehicles, and
would instead, commencing January 1, 2005, exempt any motor vehicle
that is 45 or more model-years old.
(2) Existing law makes any violation of the smog check program, or
any order, rule, or regulation of the department adopted pursuant to
the program, a misdemeanor.
By expanding the scope of a crime, this bill would impose a
state-mandated local program.
(3) The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse
local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the
state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that
reimbursement.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this
act for a specified reason.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.
State-mandated local program: yes.
