Accelerator Pumps
In viewing the accelerator pump shown on Whiting's site, there seems to be a discrepancy in my opinion, that the cup washer is only on one side.
A smaller surface area of pushing side of the pump would cause premature failure.
Honda had the same size of cup washer on both sides.
See attached.
The failed original pump has the full cup washer but still failed after an unknown period of use.
Remember, "You get what you inspect not what you expect"

Re: Accelerator Pumps
Bill,
I agree that the accelerator pump on Bruce's site is not identical to the original, however, what other choice to we have? (I need one, too.)
So far, honda600carparts is the ONLY source I'm aware of for a replacement accelerator pump diaphragmn.
If you know of another source, please share.
On a related note, 16048-371-004 looks very similar to an accelerator pump.
Can anyone confirm that it will or will not work as one?

Re: Accelerator Pumps
An Air Cut Off Valve is not an accelerator pump, wrong material and as I recall wrong size. Here's the exact same one $20 cheaper but I wouldn't waste your time.

I have been using Bruce's accel pump diaphrams for 20 years and never a problem. Alternately I have tested not using the accel pump and I couldn't tell a difference. I bought a bag of Nitrile orings and was going to make a cap off plate.

That is very interesting information, Miles.
I'm going to experiment with deleting the accelerator pump and see what happens.

Oh, it will run. Don't be surprised if your 0-20 times look more like 0-60 times. Don't put your foot in it as it will stumble badly or die completely. But, good luck.

Re: Accelerator Pumps
That's exactly what I would EXPECT to happen, but that's not what Miles said he experienced. We'll see how it goes...
Re: Accelerator Pumps
Why would Honda make that way if they didn’t need to?

Re: Accelerator Pumps
Bill is correct here. The need for an accelerator pump is related to how fast the throttle is opened. When the throttle opens rapidly the air flows faster than the fuel. This causes a lean condition and a cough. Motorcycles don't need an accelerator pump since their throttles are leveraged differently. They open more slowly than car thottles. You could get away with it if you never rapidly mash the throttle.
On another note. The air cut off diaphragms are not made from a material that holds up to fuel. It takes a very good material to resist destruction from todays fuel.

Re: Accelerator Pumps
hay bill cant u make a accelerator pump for this guy ? and whats wrong with the site that has one it will not work I will need a hole carb rebuild kit and going to buy the kit they show if it don't work I will just send it back but this care will not run with out that pump I know I did try it. IT dies every time u hit the gas at a stop light its a real pain with out the accelerator pump I had a old Honda 600 bike that had a pump on it it would not run at all with out it just keep die ing yes its is on there for a reason it helps on start offs from dead stops and for passing if u stomp it with out it will die just adding my 2 cents in
