Yes but a Honda 600 coupe is geared differently than a 1970 sedan having crashbox trans. 32mpg was my average around town - burn em off the stop roadracing behavior of the 80's. :-)
Honda only claims "up to 40 mpg" in their 1972 brochure. And don't forget an Imperial Gallon differs from a USA gallon and the speedometer is off calibration from the factory by 5 to 8mph. Also since the original sedans came with taller tires....
My Honda 1967 motorcycle sales booklet claims the Honda 50cc motorcycles get 200mpg decreasing down to 60mpg for the 450cc bikes.

In 72 when I had my first coup I hit 90mph on a slight down hill grade.  Let off the gas and blew both plugs out.

Documented 78mph .... and I finished last!
Check out the "Dragracing Hondas" for documented (and televised) 60mph 1/4 mile.

The top MPH I got out of my 72 600 coupe was 110 mph (had a friend in a Camaro as my chase car to verify my top speed). It took me about 2 miles of just holding the pedal to the floor get there but it broke the 100 mph at about 9000 RPM... This was on a perfectly level road with 85 degree Texas weather. The motor sound was like a swarm of bees buzzing. The little car holds the road pretty well at high speeds. Didn't blow any plugs or have any problems at all. What killed this engine was towing my boat with it... 36 HP pulling a 17 foot sailboat at 60 MPH is just asking for motor failure. Had a rod start knocking, but then again I had almost 100,000 miles on the crank and I knew it was going to go... These are the greatest little cars I have ever owned... I have 4 of them, 3 coupes and 1 sedan. I treat them all with much more kindness now then I use to. They deserve it... I'm in the process of installing a Turbocharger on one of them. Got to workout the oiling issues. Let's keep'm run'in...

I guess in today's world of Go Pro video "if it ain't on video it didn't happen" right??? Guess I need to get a video of my doing what I said I did, but then someone will just say I faked the video. So you can believe what you want, I know what I did.

Sorry Kevin, I must call bullshit on your 110mph claim as well as the 17 foot sailboat at 60.

Only squeezed 80 mph out of my coupe  but that was while averaging over 300 miles per gallon.  Of course the truck that was pulling the trailer it was one did not do nearly as well on miles per gallon.
