Re: electric z600??

Post by Tom Rapini »

I am using the original 600 gearbox, mainly for reverse so I wouldn't have to do it electrically.  The electric motor has so much torque that I usually start out in third gear and shift into fourth to reach speeds over 20mph.  I am underpowered, having only a single 12hp series wound electric motor (with two 15hp motors, yours must be quicker than a stock 600!! ).  If I really need to pull out into traffic I will use second gear.
The clutch was sacrificed and if I had to do it over, I probably would have spent the extra time to design and build the structure required to keep it.  Since the motor does not idle, it is not a problem in stopping.  But having no clutch makes for slow shifting as I have to wait for the motor speed to wind down before riding the synchros to shift gears while moving.
