Honda 600 restoration tip

Post by roger white »

Like all race car manufacturers Honda strove to minimize weight on its cars.
The aluminum door handles are one example. Sure we all buff these to a high polish, but how to keep them from tarnishing? Clear laquer or clear wheel finish come to mind but we know eventually its going to wear off!
I learned something in aircraft mechanics school that will treat the aluminum and won't wear off. Its called Alodine solution and you simply
wipe it on after you are done buffing your door handles. It chemically changes the outer layer of the aluminum to make it resistant to corrosion/oxidation.
You may be able to order it from your car paint shop or you can get from an aviation supply house. Get the smallest container available.
It will dull the luster some. I treated my 600's door handles eighteen years ago and they still look nice. The sedan's outside mirror base needs the same treatment.

Ask where their nearest distributer is to you.
  You want the Alodine 5200.
