Update on the work on my sedan...

Post by misterpoopoohead »

Hi Gang,
I thought I'd give you all an update on the status of my sedan.
So, here's what I've done so far:
0) Rebuild fuel pump.
1) Replace gaskets on top end and re-tap stripped bolts holding down
cam housing.
2) Replace all gaskets on the exhaust manifold train and remove
snapped off bolts and re-tap holes.
3) Completely replace exhaust pipe and muffler.
4) Re-adjust voltage regulator points gaps.
5) Rebuild carb.
6) Install super cool stereo system.
After all of that the car is running just about like new. I drive
that this everywhere. The $30K Xterra stays home. ;o)
I just started to track the mileage and it is coming in somewhere
around 37 mpg. That may not be totaly accurate but it's somewhere
between 35 and 40 mpg.
What's in store for the future?
When the rain starts the little guy will go into the garage for the
winter. During the rainy season I'll be rebuilding the steering rack,
replacing ball joints, shocks, bushings, etc. I'm basically planning
to completely redo the suspension and steering. It should drive like
a new car when that's all done.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the expert help I
receive from my good buddy Miles C.!

***Don't do it man, Winter rain is the most fun in a Honda 600.
eBrake skids are the best. The rear end whips around, it's sooo much
fun. And it doesn't wear out the tires! I remember being out one
night flippin' donuts with my coupe over at the Lumberman's yard in
Felton, slight mud on pavement!
Have you ever done backward donuts in your sedan? Go to a large
parking lot like where you work, crank the wheels all the way left
and accelerate, see how fast you can go before you puke.
For additional good times get 2 lunch trays and place them under your
rear tires and lock the hand brake. Uncontrolable fun, I mean really
no control ! Kids, don't try this at home, again, big parking lot.

It's right next to the Speedometer cable head.  When you remove it use a 14mm open end wrench and don't loose the seal washer.  Some times they get jammed in when putting the car in reverse.  It sits in oil so WD40 would be of little use.  But you might have better luck with a pen knife.

Reverse switch is screwed into the cover where the dipstick goes in.
It has 2 wires a green and a yellow that plug in near the battery.
Unplug the wires before you unscrew it using a 14mm wrench, don't
drop/lose the washer as you may not get reverse gear again! Most of
the switches are finger loose because of vibration. Be careful
reinstalling it as the threads are only aluminum and easily strip.
