daily drivers & MPG

Post by Miles »

I have owned over 60 Honda 600's. 40 of them were cars I drove. One
of them is on the cover of AutoPhyle Magazine and the owner still
drives it. I always had a Honda 600 as a daily driver back in the
80's, even the early 90's. I always had a second or 3rd vehicle as
well or more than one Honda 600 or an S600 and an N600 to drive.
I currently have a 600 sedan I have been driving to work daily. It's
fun, it's fast and I just realized how small they are because
everyone else up here in Santa Cruz mountains are driving SUV's.
I carry some parts with me, a set of points, set of spark plugs,
some tools, spare keys, a flashlight and my ever trusty cell phone!
Miles per gallon will vary from car to car for many reasons. I only
get 30mpg because I like to drive hard & fast, (fast off the line or
get run over) I live in the mountains also, so more hills. Your
mileage may vary because some Honda 600's have 135 main jets (early
carbs) and the aluminum top carbs came in either 150 or 160 main jet
sizes. If your orings in your carb have hardened up you will use
more fuel as it's sucking it around your jets. Your compression
might affect your mpg, the lowest psi I have ever seen a 600 run at
is 110psi. 150-160psi is what is normal after a rebuild, but after
years of wear the rings will actually crack and parts do wear, so
your compression may only be 135.
