Anyone ran into this yet?

Post by Bill »

Still trying to figure out why my z600 won't run good after 30mph.
Took the cover off to check the chain and at some point someone has
scribed a new line on my cam sprocket. Please look at the pics in
Bills Car Sow album and tell me what to do. The pictures were taken
with the notch on the pulley at the T mark so the line on the sprocket
should be level with the engine. It looks like neither line is where
it should be. Records indicate new chsin was installed about 10,000
miles ago.
Need advice quick or I might sell. Getting frustrated!
Also how do I adjust the chain if it has jumped a link? Thanks,
Bill in Missouri

easiest way I found when I was battling a bad adjuster was to remove tensioner and both cam plates (on each end) you can then drop the cam down a few mm and get the chain to slip to where it needs to be. be aware that when you bring the cam back into position and put the tensioner bac in it may pull the cam back out of time so you have to compensate for it. I would get it back ti stock timing and try it out before selling it to me...

looking at your pics, you are way out unless it is a hawaiian cam or something that wasnt designed for your motor. get it back and start from scratch, er...original line.

Hi
Looking at the threads it is confusing who owns this car. But, take a
look at the file on the points braker plate fix. I think your problem is in
the braker plate not adjusting properly when it's advancing.

Some cams have 2 lines. There is one that is *cast* in but it may be
slightly off. Honda scribed on a 2nd line on some cams. The only way
to correctly check the cam timing is to remove the end bearings and
lift up on the ends with the hydraulic tensioner removed. With the cam
in you want the cam line parallel to the top of the engine. If not
flat then leaning backwards slightly is your goal. Leaning forward
will make it run slow and won't go up hills very well.
