alternative carb

Post by MarkN »

Greetings-
A couple of weeks ago, I went down to a local motorcycle shop, and
asked if they had any carbs about the same size as the one off of
my '71 N600. They took a look at the old one, reached into a drawer
of new ones, and came out with a carb. The guy said, "I think it's
for a Suzuki GN400."
I'm still tuning it in, but it's pretty close to perfect. I drilled
the main jet out to .062, raised the needle and raised the float
level 1mm.
I used a clamp on foam type air filter, directly to the carb. A few
mods to the throttle and the choke cables got them hooked up.
A highly recommended mod if you can't seem to get that old POS dialed
in.

Hey Miles,
How much was the new carb and does it have an accelerator pump? Is it
a Mikuni or other?
I used to run a Honda CB450 carb on one of my N600's. I also ran 2
carbs off a Honda CB360 on another N600. I made a 2 into 1 manifold
for them and it worked pretty well, wouldn't get up to top speed
though.

The carb I found is a Mikuni, doesn't have an accellerator pump
(works great though), cost about $100 inc. tax and a filter.
I put some pictures of it in the folder called "Miles E's photos"
fun fun fun

Miles,
What kind of jetting and needle settings did you use on the CB450 carb?

I don't really remember, that was 20 years ago! I probably just used
the stock jets.

Miles,
I guess I find out then. I'm fitting one up to a TN350 pickup that I
have. The original was so gunked up that repeated carb cleaner baths
haven't done the job. To say nothing of the corrosion of the body
itself.
Thanks!
