New Paint!

Post by deanbratcher1 »

Hi all!
My car is finally painted and has been trailered home today! What a great
feeling! Only 1 tiny stone chip to fix (collected from a passing truck!),
never mind.
Check out my new photos on my diary page.

Don't worry, the site won't crash due to overloading anymore. I've
subscribed to Geocities. Watch this space in the coming months for a new
.com webpage address!
Does anyone on the forum have a good condition rear N360 bumper? This is a
narrower bumper than the n600, and due to it's lesser quality, not many
survive rusting!
Also I'm looking for a 10 inch radial tyre that looks similar to a crossply
and that also has a white band on the side wall. I also understand that a
whitewall can be 'applied' to a chosen black tyre? Any comments?

Hi James
The car is looking good, I see you use new parts for the restoration.
I like that old UTE siting in front of the shop.

Loved the paint job James - what did it cost?
I've got a rear bumper I'd describe as fair - a few small dents but
the chrome is good with the inside only showing surface rust. It has
a hole drilled towards right side where an extra reversing light was
fitted.

Greg,
The cost of getting the body rust repaired, new underseal, primered
and painted was NZ$4200.00 or US$2880.00.
Sounds like your bumper is comparible to mine. I have seen a good
website in the Netherlands that sells NOS parts. They have a new
bumper for 200 euro I think. So I may use that option.
For the standard gained I'm really happy and reckon that it's good
value for money. Remaining expense is fairly minor. Things like door
rubbers, a rear bumper (albeit for cosmetic reasons), new tyres, and
a really good quality wax system. (like Autoglym or Meguires).
I sprayed sealant oil into the panel cavities last night. Odourless
fish oil with rust inhibiter. Trouble is, it's not that 'odourless'
and the garage smells slightly of cod liver oil!!!!! A coat of wax
should introduce a new more pleasant smell!
In response to Bill, it looks like the white walls you use are the
flaps that sit behind the wheel rim? This is a good system because
you can retain the flaps when you change tyres and also use any brand
of tyre. I'm making a few enquiries with some local vintage car clubs
to find a local source.
As always they'll be regular updates to my webpage as the re-build
continues.
Happy honda ing !
