Hi Alan,
Is that because most of the cars out there are of the smaller variety?
Isn't it mostly the US that runs around in big cars?

In the UK here we can get 165/70 10 and 145/80 10 tyres "off the shelf" its the spare parts we find hard to get!

Tire heat is important. Our Honda 600's use 145/80R-10 tires.
I love math and racing, so think of this....
The formula is: section width X Aspect ratio X 2 divided by 25.4 + rim Diameter = tire Diameter.
So 145 X .8 = 116 x 2 = 232 divided by 25.4 = 9.13 + 10 = 19.13" tire diameter.
Now take 19.13" dia X 3.14159 = 60.1" tire circumference. About 5ft distance traveled per revolution. 5280ft in a mile divided by 5ft = 1056. So the Honda tires are rotating at 1056rpm's at 60mph! That is about twice as fast as my F150 tires are rotating. But the Honda tire only carries about 400 pounds per tire.
So weight, rpm, G-load....
I still think we are way below what these tires can handle.
I think any DOT approved tire will be fine.

DOT just means they were tested and approved along with the extra insurance required. Non DOT can have a much higher rating if they were race tires, or exactly the same rubber if not. When the first KUHMO tires first came out the big truck tires saidright on them not to exceed 50 MPH. WHO knows.....use um or don't.

There is available DOT approved golf cart tires nowadays and of course non DOT tires. Someone is going to jump in here and say non DOT tires will kill you and everyone on the hi-way but that is pure bullshit. Some non dot tires are racing tires rated for hi-speed. OH by the way, some will also say if you are in a wreck the LEOS will check your tires for the stamp, more bullshit.

Hi Kev the average size engine in the uk is under 1.6 litre (i dont know in cu inches) the tax or road duty is doubled ie 220 on engines above 1.6 litre,  the Mini from the 70s is a classic and many are daily drivers so tyres (or is that tires) in 10 inch sizes are readily available on my Z i have a set of 165/70/10s on 6 inch wide rims easy to get!

Wow! 1.6 litre (or is that liter)!
The US is chock full of 300+HP V8's and V6's and of course there are a few V12's running around!
We are starting to get the small-car mentality but it is going to be a slow road. Pun intended.

I got a Citroen c3 diesel 1.4 litre 16 valve 95 bhp turbo for her indoors,  tax is 30 a  year and it does 65 mpg! not as much fun as the Z but a very practical daily drive.

My 2 cents Lyle

WHO knows.....use um or don't.

I got a Citroen c3 diesel 1.4 litre 16 valve 95 bhp turbo for her indoors,  tax is 30 a  year and it does 65 mpg! not as much fun as the Z but a very practical daily drive.

Wow! 1.6 litre (or is that liter)!
The US is chock full of 300+HP V8's and V6's and of course there are a few V12's running around!
We are starting to get the small-car mentality but it is going to be a slow road. Pun intended.

Hi Alan,
Is that because most of the cars out there are of the smaller variety?
Isn't it mostly the US that runs around in big cars?

Tires are cheaper At minisportusa.com I buy from them all the time. Minimania is very expensive and the shipping is crazy.
