Chrome work

Post by asofdjhkljashdl »

I was not sure I had posted this here before, so thought I'd go ahead and
send it again in case it helps!
Hi folks. Just thought I'd share some news with you if you are
interested. I had my N600 front and rear bumpers re-chromed by Central
Plating in El Monte California. Their phone is XXX-XXX-XXXX, website is
www.centralplating.net
They did a FABULOUS job and the cost was FAR LESS than anyone else I could
find. I sent them my front bumper along with the two curved pieces that I
dismantled and the rear bumper along with the two curved pieces dismantled
(getting these things off and on is a real pain in the neck). The rear
curved pieces had been dented in and there was rust on most everything.
They came back looking so great. My particular cost was $223 plus shipping
to Massachusetts (which was $47). Dents removed and shinning like crazy.
You will work with April and Rosa who are very helpful. If you send them
pictures up front, they will give you estimates. My job ended up higher
when they finally received the parts as it is hard to tell from the
pictures (it was originally going to be in the $160 range), but they still
are far less expensive than anyone else I contacted (and I got a lot of
estimates).
I hope this helps some of you.

After reading your post I gave them a call about rechroming pretty much everything exterior on my 55 Buick.  I've made several calls about this and you were right.  They really had their act together.  She knew every part I was inquiring on, had a price for each one, and the prices are very reasonable.  I'm sure I'll be using them since you said the work turned out so good as well.
Thanks!

That's great news.  I'm glad you are having the same good experiences I had.
Let me know how they turn out!

I was using Valley Plating in San Jose Calif. They do good work
except the grind the metal down to the pits. Does the El Monte shop
fill or grind?
I gave up on Valley and sent the grill, 2 bumpers, 4 overriders to a
shop south of me. Price to do all pieces was $1050.00 in show quality
chrome which is what my customer was after. I will get the parts back
in 2 weeks, will report back.

I asked Central Plating about this, Miles, and here is what I got back.
It sounds like they can do most anything, but it's important to discuss it first with them.  Here is the email response I received.  In my case, my bumpers look so great I can't tell you enough how pleased I am.  They were rusted and bent and now look like new (I've never seen new, so I can only imagine).  Here is her note.  Best wishes:
Dear Doug,
There is not a universal response to that question. The first consideration is what type of metal the parts is made out of. A deeply pitted pot-metal piece would not be worked in the same manner as a rusty stamped steel bumper. Secondly, what are the customer's expectations (is this a driver, a concourse competition car, etc.). If there is a lot of pitting, is it better to recommend to the customer to find a better part to start out with? Sometimes you simply cannot remove all of the pitting, although it is a rare instance when you cannot vastly improve the parts. As you can see, it behooves both parties to have a dialogue.
Clear communication always leads to a more satisfied customer.
Regards,
April
