Hi. I need some helpful hints on removing the flywheel on my sedan. I'm rebuilding the engine and I need to remove the flywheel to replace the crank. I would like to replace it also. I see I need a special tool to remove it and I don't have it. If anyone has one they made or can tell me where to gewt one it would help me greatly. If anyone has any information on a new one that would help also.
Thanks very much.
James.

In the past Miles has had them for sale. It's a nice little tool to have. Check the links - 600miles.com I think . . .

Re: Removing flywheel on 71 honda 600 sedan
Hello James,
In addition to the rotor remover which Bill mentioned in an earlier
email, another tool which you will find indispensable is the rotor holder.
I noticed the old Z600 documentation mentions a Tool # 07023-56802. I am not
sure if this number is still valid. I have attached a picture of a rotor
holder which I made many years ago because the Honda dealer did not stock the
holder.
If you cannot find a rotor remover and you have access to a lathe, it
can be made from 26 mm hex stock. The major diameter appears to be 23.75mm
and the pitch is 1.5mm. If you make it yourself, don't forget to harden it.
While you have the rotor off, check the starter ring gear. If the side
you are using with the starter motor is showing serious wear, you may be
able to flip the ring gear since it is pressed onto the rotor. Usually, the
major wear occurs on one side and the other side is still in good shape.
good luck,
Dale

Re: Removing flywheel on 71 honda 600 sedan
On the subject of removing the Rotor (Flywheel unit), I use an Pneumatic
Impact wrench, two or three bumps, and a quick rap with a hammer them two or
three bumps again and it is off. I have removed plenty and never ruined any
of them. Although the book does say that a rotor holding tool is
available, I have found them to be unnecessary, unless you do not have the
use of an impact wrench.
Does anyone want to know how to remove the bearing from one of the pulleys
on the side of the fan housing?

Holder tool
The flywheel holder tool is not available from Honda. years ago I
milled one out of aluminum and gave it to Bill C. to test out. In all
actuality 2 ways around that tool. 1. Air impact. 2. Vice Grips
clamped onto flywheel.
3. Don't bother making the rotor tool, I had 50 of them made some
years ago. $15.00ea postpaid.

Re: Holder tool
Yes, Miles did send me one, but I lent it to another Honda 600 owner that
didn't have an impact wrench and I think he lost it because I only got the
puller back.
