We raced a '72 Coupe last year on the salt.
Any interest in seeing pictures added to the photos section?

What speeds / tach readings did you reach "out there"? We definately need a
performance report here!

Re: Land Speed Racing in Bonneville
I don't have the timing slips handy (they are at work) - but our best was a little over 82 MPH at 6200 RPM.
Before several of you pipe in with "my car is faster" keep in mind that the adjusted elevation is well over 6000' - so you've lost at least 18% of your horsepower compared to sea level. Being on the salt is a whole different world. No drafting off semi's.
The J/Production class is limited to 750cc and you can only do so much to the car. Have to run the stock block, no boost, no bottle, no fuel - only high octane gasoline. Considering that we had 600cc and stock compression, I'm pretty happy with the first year. We hoped to get through the tech inspection and do at least 80 mph our first year. The car sailed through tech, and we did better than the 80 mph. Plus the car held together through several runs.
The current record holder is a Crosley at 92.3 mph. You can see a picture of it at http://www.hotrod.com/eventcoverage/40498/ near the middle - red car with yellow flames, number 1010. (BTW - the article is wrong - the record he broke was over 89 mph, set by Bob Seim in a Honda 600 Sedan.) Gerald's car is one of the nicest ones on the salt - a real show car, and (of course) a record holder.
Just to let everyone know - this group made a big difference in running the car - I'll post some "thanks" once I can look up the names and spell them right!
I'll post more later!
