Parts prices on Ebay

Post by honda600king »

Anyone else been watching the crazy parts prices on Ebay? Last week, tach &
speedo cables sold for $250 each. This week, there are rear shocks over
$150 and brake calipers at $200. All this from a car that cost $1295 new.
Are NOS parts really that scarce, or is this just a few "enthusiastic"
bidders? If this keeps going, we won't be afford to drive our cars.
Hopefully the good prices will encourage other Honda dealers to search the
back shelves.

I've discoverd that there is a Honda dealer out east that has been
told to restore a 600 to like new condition for display. I guess $$
is not a problem.
I've gotten a price for a rebuilt set of front calipers with pads at
$215.00. So the current bid I saw at $179.00 isn't that bad.

Yes, and the word is out that there is a couple of people driving up prices
and then pulling their bid at the last minute. From what I have heard none
of the items with high prices has sold for that price.

Hi Ken;
$215.00 is not high. After Gold cad plating a few caliper sets and
having the pistons rechromed and purchasing new hardware and seals I had
almost that in a set I put on a car. And after resleeving 4 areas of a
Coupe brake power booster and rechroming the long piston and replating all
the steel parts on it I had well over $300.00 in the booster alone. What I
am talking about a high price is the Coupe tach drive cable recently bid on
ebay. I understand the bid was pulled. Honda has put a high price on
their items. I priced a Coupe lug nut at $7.19 dealer price each. Another
was a head gasket for $60.00, and this is from Honda. A few years back
Pistons were listed at $125.00 each without rings or pins.
And NOS (New Old Stock) parts that have been sitting on the shelf for 30
some years is still 30 years old. I had an owner who wanted an original
windshield seal for a Coupe, we found one in Australia, it came in the
original package unbroken. When the owner tried to put it on the car it
cracked at every corner and broke in the center. The plastics and rubber
was not that good in the first place and 30 years of shelf wear does not
help it. Metal parts do not do much better if not stored properly. I found
a new carb still in the box that was stored under a few other parts. Over
time it had pressed down on the casting and the front of the ventury causing
it to egg shape and not allow it to open. It was not even good for parts.
I guess what I am saying is look at the part, NOS is not always what it
is put up to be. It may be new, but time tests all things.

2 peeople bid $3500 ea on Dinky then they must have gotten scared
when they hit the reserve, then they retracted the bids. Wacky. When
I have the parts I usually sell rebuilt calipers for $75ea, not huge
money maker, but not many takers either.
