You must remember that Ebay is an auction, seldom do you get the price you want at auctions. And you never know for sure what you are buying and you must be willing to take that chance. There are four people supporting honda 600 owners and they do not get the repect they deserve for the work and time let alone the money they put into finding parts or replacements that work for these cars. People forget that these cars are thirty years old and parts will be hard to find. You think parts are hard to find for N600 and Z600 dont buy a S600 or S800 then. Just rampling on, but drive your car and enjoy it but be willing to pay the price to do it.

Re: Digest Number 198
HI Marty;
In the August 8th through 10th auction in Reno, a Honda 600 Coupe sold for $1,400.00 in condition 4 shape, which means it is needing almost everything for a full restoration. If you go to www.NADAguides.com you will find what a Sedan or Coupe is selling for nation wide. NADA bases it's prices on sellers and auction inputs. The true price of any old car is what your willing to sell it for and what the other person is willing to pay for it.
If you do not have value in your Honda 600 Coupe or Sedan why do you think others will? I have sold (within the past several months) two Coupes a 71 and a 72 both in condition 3 for more than $2,800.00, and they were worth every cent. One issue you can't get past is "Does it work?, and I mean everything and it must all be there, every nut and bolt" If not even at condition 3 it is going to be valued at less. Both of the 600's I sold made you believe they could lift tar from the street, all the glass was in good condition and the interior all there. I have another that I did not sell for a cash offer of $8,000.00. I did not have faith that the person purchasing the vehicle would take care of it. There is demand, and if you believe your keeping the price down because you sell your car for less, you're kidding your-self. Even on Ebay a set lowest price you will accept can be placed on the screen, if no one bids it may mean you did not contact the right person. Not that the car is not worth the price you set.
Remember one thing, as Mike has said, the value of the parts alone are going up, and the cost to reproduce is a special item order. Waiting several months for a part or looking for years is not unheard of. I found an emblem in Holland that I made brass duplicates of to put on my car. Then the emblem goes back. This is why a group page like this one is so important. We have to link to find the best parts available to make others from. Believe me, taking the time to get a part reproduced takes much more time and effort than the price they may be selling it for.
Take your car to shows in your area, do the street thing at the local Burger stop, join local groups to bring your car out for others to see. You will be pleasantly surprised. They look, laugh, point and say "I used to know a kid that had one of those, but I have not seen one in years!" And, when you walk off with the trophy, they all congratulate you for taking the time to bring such an unusual car to their event.

Re: Digest Number 198
well, i can i CAN drive my car, and i DO enjoy driving
it. unfortunately, i can drive it no further than one
block per day. it has too many problems to dare to
drive it more. now i must slowly hunt and gather
parts to repair it. the car is in good condition
body/rust-wise, and the engine starts with the first
turn of the key and idles nicely, but those are the
only two good things i can say about the car.
anything else you can and can't imagine wrong with a
honda is wrong. electrical system shorts out. brakes
bad. fan belt shot. tires shot. tail pipe missing.
window seals rotting. car getting bad gas mileage
plus does not want to go over 50 mph. car makes odd
vibrating sound when in gear and moving. etc. etc.
etc. ah, the JOY of owning an older car.
ps- speaking of people hunting parts/supporting air
cooled hondas~ i understand that the legendary ed big
daddy roth used to do just that. he owned and loved
an air cooled honda i am told. is this true? has
anyone ever had any dealings with the man? if you
have, please share your memories of ratfink's daddy.

The whole enjoyment of car restoration is knowing that you've repaired, renewed or reinvented. I get real satisfaction from the process of restoration. Have just rebuilt my rear axle. Yes there are some NOS parts used in the rebuild, but some parts had to be re-shaped, repaired, repainted.
Why do we restore these cars? Because they were the inovation of the time and there is so much that people take for granted these days. How refreshing to drive a well restored, original, car 30 years old amongst all the modern vehicles on the road. People point and say ' I remember those!'
Everyone remembers E-Types , Healeys, MG's etc. Boy, I'd love to have a first model TN360 with 4 carbs!
Strive to be different!

well, i guess i got a little lucky. the car has practically no rust on it. the person who sold it claimed it has 45,000 original miles, and i guess it is true because it has so little rust and the engine compartment looks very clean. just wish the last owner hadn't given the poor car an "earl scheib" paint job. dark blue paint every where. even painted the bumpers and door handles. =(
many thanks for your input on the electrical system. i will try my best to figure things out.
