Oil Cap Seal

Post by Steve »

Go buy one of these here oil caps - Stant 10106. The seal is
indentical to the 600 rubber seal. Remove your old seal clean surface
and contact cement the new seal to your cap. Install cap and if you
don't get a tight seal, rotate cap backwards a bit. Use the
replacement cap for an ashtray or a soapdish. I paid $4.00 for my
Stant.

Hi Ian;
As Miles has already said, often other parts can be found to replace
worn parts on your 600 engine, body and interior. Finding them is part of
the key. I have used the bathroom sink drain pull for the plug as a
replacement for the gas door pin on the Sedan. It's made out of Brass, and
chromed. Cut to length, grind it to resemble the original and drill a hole
in it to hold the spring. The knob on the end is chrome and really makes a
long lasting fix.
As for the oil fill cap seal. I have a number of them and normally find
a good used one in the lot. But, to keep them working and looking new I
bend the tabs and sometimes the cap itself back to it's original shape and
have it Gold Cad plated then glue the rubber back into the cap in it's
original position. By original position, the is a top and bottom to the
rubber seal, I glue them back into the cap in the same position they were
before. I have had one or two that still leaked, but most work very well.
