charge light on
charge light on
Check your voltage regulator -- it may be stuck. Sometimes it unsticks itself. You may need to replace it. Also I'd unplug and clean all the alternator connections. Their location causes them to get really dirty. Hope this helps. Joe Ward, N. Little Rock AR.

Re: charge light on
Both are good places to start, but the idea is to find the problem and not guess at it or the fix. Trouble shooting will take some time and although cleaning all your connections may fix it, will you know which one ? I would do as Joe has said, check the harness connection by pulling the plug and see if the black wire is lose or green with corrosion. Plug it back in and try the fix if it still shows a dim light. Go to the brushes on the stator. They should be long, about a half inch out, and check their connections and wires. if they are low then renew and try the fix. If it is still showing a glow, then go to the white wires coming from the stator and so on. Until you find what caused the problem. On old cars, just pulling the part and replacing it can sometimes cause more damage. Often low voltage is due to a bad wire harness which may be shorting to the chassis, other wires or just falling apart.
Remember, this is still a 30+ year old vehicle and even though you handled it with care over heating of wires can cause a break down of the insulation, melting it and causing it to short out.

Re: charge light on---Success!!!
-Good news! After getting suggestions on what to check, I checked
connections and voila! I found and loose connection in wire coming
from starter/generator. Made the connection good and ta-dah...no more
charge light. What a relief. Thanks again for the help. I love this
