Is brake booster needed?

Post by isettajoe »

Mike Bever has my 600 trying to get it driveable. He says the front
brakes are grabbing, and wondered if the car could be driven safely
if he by-passed the brake booster. If anyone has an answer, can you
email him at 4bevers@... Thanks. I am going to be on vacation
and won't be checking this board for two weeks.

i had a friend by-pass the booster and the brakes still dragged it ended up being the master cyl their is some very very small holes in the master cyl under the fittings where the brake fluid enters master cyl any way he had to take it apart and cleaned master cylinder the bore of master cyl was not in great shape but he put it back together and brakes stopped dragging.he would drive the car and the brakes would slowly start drag so bad that he had too open bleeder valve too relieve pressure on both front brakes so he could make it home

Re: Sticky Brakes Is

Post by timk11 »

Generally sticky front brakes is from the tiny piston in booster
getting stuck. The tiny piston is aluminum and so is the cylinder. To
free up the piston remove the booster, then 4 7mm bolts from the lid
which the breather cap is on. Remove spring, diaphram, snap ring,
washer. Then smack cylinder body on a 2x4. If the piston doesn't fall
out you will have to drill/tap and remove it. I recently had 10 of
these pistons made, will sell at cost of $15.00, re-use your old
seals if they are not torn up. Also if you have brake fluid in the
large canister, you have additional problems and need more parts &
service.
