Recreational gasoline?

Post by Chuck Dean »

Hello everyone,
I am to understand that gasoline with ethanol is harmful to older engines like our Hondas. Has anyone tried recreational gasoline in their honda?

I'm pretty sure my honda's previous owner used an ethanol / gasoline mix during the majority of its 144,000 miles, would there be any sense in changing back to 100% gasoline at this time?
BTW this car is only driven a few hundred miles per year.

Thanks for any info,
Chuck

If you are looking for gasoline which is free of alcohol,  take your 5 gallon gas jug to one of the following places;
1.  small airport.  I used to buy the 100 LL  (low lead).  They also sell a no lead gas
2.  boat marina which sells gasoline.  In many states,  the marina gas is alcohol-free.  Check with the marina.

The aviation gas will be the highest quality and most stable gasoline.
The gas stabilizers mentioned by others are a good idea during the off-season.
Something to check on your old Honda 600 sedan or coupe is the fuel fill hose which goes from the filler neck to the gas tank (it is 1.5 inches inside diameter and about 1 foot long).  Over time,  this hose will deteriorate and leak.   If you can't find the hose you need at an auto parts store,  go to a marine supply store and they sell the hose by the foot or prepackaged in  lengths and they seem to have a good price.  The hose will be USCG rated and will be suitable for gas and gas/alcohol blends  (e.g. www.westmarine.com).
good luck, Dale

Here is a website that might help you find better fuel for specialized purposes. I believe it covers every state. Good luck.
