Honda Z600 coupe hatchback torsion bars.

Hi guys, On my Honda coupe, one of the torsion bars has broken. I only have one torsion bar in the hatchback. I noticed that the hatchback is not lining up correctly, could be torsion bar be holding up one side of the hatchback? Will the hatch work OK if I take out the other torsion bar. I dont think itll be possible for me to do any type of easy fix for the torsion bars, and someone told me that they illuminate them.
Any ideas?

Both torsion bars are needed to keep the hatch open on the Z600.  Remove the torsion bars and the hatch will still function but you will need some type of aid (e.g. a stick, a bar, 2x4 piece of wood) to keep the hatch up.
Not using the torsion bars will extend the life of your rear hatch plastic frame.  In time,  they seem to develop a stress crack along the top.
Did your torsion bar really break?  I have never seen that happen.  I have only seen the keepers that attach to the torsion bars at each end fail.

No, the torsion bars themselves do not break, just to keep her at the end blew out. When I did do that the torsion bar snapped Ford and smacked the roof and chipped the paint. So I decided to remove the other torsion bar so it wouldnt chipped paint on the other side. I did today, but hatch works good with my little wooden prop.
