I did something stupid
Hello everyone,
The VIN tag on my 600 Coupe had fallen off, and while I was trying to fit it back on the dashboard, it fell down the defroster vent.
If I leave the defroster and heater on, is it likely to fall out?
I don't want to take the dash apart.

I don’t know Chuck, there are a bunch of things to get caught on in there (see attached parts page)  But you may look at going after it from the bottom up.

Chuck,
You might get lucky and have it fall out of item 24 in figure below.
Problem is the upper defroster nozzle (29) has a catch area at the bottom just before the lower defroster/fresh air nozzle (28). If the VIN tag gets past 29, it should easily slide down (with vibration) to the air control box (11). There the air control valve (12) will catch it. If the tag is there, repeated fast switching the control lever (Interior/Defroster) may free it to drop down to the control valve guide (24) and drop to the floor. I would say that 29 and 11 are most likely to catch it before coming out. If the control valve was in defroster position it could go into the heater outlet box (7).  I have attached a picture of the air control box, which you
might be able to get out by disconnecting the control cable and two screws, giving access to 11, 7 and the bottom of 28. Other photo shows the upper defroster nozzle, which requires a dash removal to access. I dont think you want to go there!  Hope this help you solve your problem.

Thanks for the info, guys. I fished around with some bailing wire, but I couldn't feel anything.
Hopefully, it will rattle its way through the heater box and someday end up on the floor.
If that ever happens, and I try to attach it to the dash, I'll be sure to tape over the defroster vents first.

That tag goes on with pop rivets so you would need to either remove windshield or remove the speaker
grille which involves removing the glove box, some gauges, center dash fresh air vent etc. Possibly you could peer in with a flex
scope. That vent looks like a giant Y and you can lay down and see where the joint would be because it probably fell all the way through to the bottom.
